my friend and i are two east coast burners who will be in san francisco for NYE. were hitting up sea of dreams and staying for a few days. were hoping to meet up with some local burners while were out there. we were thinking some nightlife, clubs with good beats. spinjams are also great. any help pointing us in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. thanks and hope to see you soon!

NIMBY has now reached the critical juncture we have seen looming for sometime. To further our progress with the city – where things are still going well – we have had to make many tough financial decisions. We have shelled out endless amounts of money for permit fees, engineers, and testing services. In the name of progress we have had to divert funds from everyday bills, like the rent, to finalize the city process.

Although Snook is a master cash flow juggler NIMBY is at the point where creative solutions end. We have attempted to raise as much money as possible from foundations, loans, and donations to avoid this – but here we are.

December is make it or break it for NIMBY. We need to meet our past due bills or look at the option of ending things here.

We have a beautiful space, our permits are going through, we are bustling with tenants and many new, amazing projects are on the horizon for spring. We would be financially viable month-to-month but the added expense of navigating the bureaucracy of Oakland is not something we could have prepared for. We are at the point where there is no more juggling, no more robbing Peter to pay Paul, this is it. NIMBY is struggling and needs your support to bring expenses under control or pull the plug.

If everyone on this list donated $20 we will make it though this lean period. For all the reasons you support art, community, DIY-ness and free-thinking goodness – please consider giving NIMBY a Christmas to remember once again. It's up to you at this point. Lets keep NIMBY's doors open and head into 2010 on solid ground - we have come too far to disappear now.

PLEASE TAKE MASS TRANSIT, BIKE and CARPOOL: (Muni bus #22, #48 and BART connects with the 3rd St T-line), ride your bike and avoid driving on Minnesota Street completely! Cheap parking available at UCSF lot (3rd Street at 16th Street) at discounted rate (should be approx $5 all day instead of $20). Or park on Terry Francois Blvd just a couple blocks away.

Here’s how you can participate in making this our best Decompression ever!

• Arrive Early! Come at NOON and enjoy a full day of amazing art, people and programming! Don't come late or you WILL miss amazing experiences and spectacles scheduled only EARLY in the day. Enter at 19th & Minnesota; the other entries are for registered artists/performers only.

• Respect Our Neighbors. Enter and leave the area VERY quietly. Don’t block driveways and don’t drive or park on Minnesota Street AT ALL unless approved for unloading there in advance.

• Green Your Commute! Don’t waste gas seeking a parking spot; parade to the event with thousands of others on public transportation. Or bike! There will be bike racks at 19th & Minnesota. Or carpool and park at the UCSF lot at 16th St. & 3rd St. (3 blocks away with special discounted $5 parking rate), at the ballpark, or on Illinois Street or Terry Francois Blvd. Please do NOT drive or park on Minnesota Street or Indiana Street. There will also be a taxi stand at 18th and Minnesota for your convenience. And mass transit is VERY convenient.

• Express Yourself and pARTicipate! Wear your finest playa pageantry and costumery. Then illuminate your outfit with solar lighting and magical powers by night! Oh, and bring warm layers. It’s San Francisco, ya know! We always have room for photos and hanging art on the fences, but we tend to get FULL on everything else that needs placement or scheduling! • HELP US... Express Responsibly! Protect the event and our beautiful park. We need YOUR help to honor our permit terms and promises:
- No stakes, unleashed dogs, fire, amplified sound, vehicles or bikes in the park;
- Use entrances and do not cut through bushes, where there are sprinkler heads;
- No unapproved amplified sound systems or fire art. (Oh, yeah, we said that already. Just checking you’re paying attention.)
- No drumming, loud or amplified sound after 10PM ANYWHERE. The only exception will be the Mariposa Stage performance until 11PM. If anyone is drumming or making amplified noise on the street after 10pm, shoot first and ask questions later. (um…don’t actually shoot them. Just get them to stop.)
- After sound ends, talk quietly and enjoy the art, theme camps, and community
- If you are a registered art car or theme camp, please take extra care to not drive over ANY electric cables or distro boxes during setup/breakdown. Take special care during exodus when you are likely to be tired. Have someone safely guide you out of your spot and get home safe.

• Leave Quietly and Travel in Groups to help one another back to your cars and next destinations. If you are alone, ask a Ranger for help and wait at one of the exits to join a group going your way. Remember this is an urban environment and there is safety in numbers. And PLEASE do not drive if you have had anything to drink. Have a designated driver or take a taxi. Smart, right!?

• And of course… Leave No Trace! Properly sort trash, recycling and composting throughout the day. Please pick up trash and deposit it in appropriate pails. Breakdown is 10PM-midnight for the park and 12-2AM everywhere else. By 2AM, EVERYTHING MUST BE GONE and small debris must be swept into the street for the street sweeper we hired to work its street sweeper magic. If you are exhibiting at Decom, please bring an extra broom to sweep the sidewalks clean and pick up large debris in the street. Also, please remove unwanted fliers from cars and wherever you see them. I mean, really people, can’t we just hand them to people that actually want them instead of forcing them on unsuspecting cars and neighbors!

• Please Come Back Monday Morning!: Leaving the neighborhood cleaner than we found it is a gift we are serious about giving. If you are an early riser, return bright and early and, starting on Minnesota Street and moving to surrounding blocks) pick up any trash, feathers, cigarette butts and leftovers you see. If you need to sleep later, come from 11am-4pm for our main annual neighborhood and park clean-up! A group of us will start on Minnesota and 19th, move to the park, to Indiana, then surrounding streets. Many hands make light work and every year we leave the neighborhood CLEANER than we found it. Bring gloves, brooms, shovels and plastic bags if you got ‘em. We’ll bring extra supplies, free donuts and coffee! And we’ll love you even more! Seriously, we need YOU to volunteer even for a little while so we can clean the place faster than a plague of LNT locusts! Hey, thanks! This really means a lot to those of us that have to stay up all night packing out in our high heels, platform boots, and happy but bloody stumps.

The Funchux campaign is to produce the world's highest quality fire-performance gear at low prices. Our mission is to provide everyone with super affordable, great looking high-performance gear so they don't have to settle for dishing out $60-$160 on a single item to some big company that spent all of $9-$20 wholesale price on the materials and 20 minutes to produce it. In today's economy, people shouldn't be forced to spend an arm and a leg in order to receive fire toys which have been finely made by experienced craftsmen. Funchux is not some corporation, but an idea. Bringing people together and advancing the technology of fire performance equipment. Our philosophy is simple: build fire toys at the lowest prices possible without sacrificing quality, and sell each piece at the price which allows x 2 of the specific object to be built and resold. (Example: It costs us $18 to build a set of Firechux and we sell them for $36) When 1 object is sold, it creates 2 objects, and so on. As we all put in a small amount, we all get something great out of it. As our campaign grows it will allow us to continuously lower the pricing of our toys.

In the first major retrospective of the artist’s work since his death from AIDS/HIV in 2001, A Compassionate Eye: The Work of Victor Arimondi explores the incredible breadth of the internationally-acclaimed photographer often compared to – but lesser known than – such contemporaries as Mapplethorpe, and Bianci. The exhibit runs through December 2 at the James C. Hormel Gay & Lesbian Center of San Francisco’s Main Public Library (100 Larkin Street, 3rd Floor). Entrance to the exhibit is free and open to the public.

Part of New York’s heady “pop art” era, Arimondi started as a fashion model before turning the lens on his former life often citing his admiration for the work of Avedon as one of his inspirations. Born in Italy in 1942, it was in Sweden that Arimondi was discovered while working as a laborer. Soon, his rough-hewn beauty made him one of Europe’s most popular regulars in print and on the runway, an experience which led him to his ultimate career. His varied palette and incredible output – with more than 3000 photos -- included male nudes, high fashion treatments, photo montages and later documenting the plight of the homeless and the onslaught of AIDS / HIV. When he died in his adopted home of San Francisco on July 24, 2001, his face and work had graced most of the world’s top fashion publications and several books, now collectors’ items.

“My approach to photography has never been causal,” Arimondi once said. “Since I posed in front of the camera so many years, my experience with talented photographers made me realize a way to express my inner world. My approach to beauty is dominated by my classical background and European style. I came to this country to further develop my style and spirit – I believe that I have been faithful to my ideal.”

STARTLING NEW EVIDENCE THAT THE “SWINE FLU” PANDEMIC IS MAN-MADE --- NOVARTIS PATENT DETAILED
AND MASS MURDER CHARGED!

Murder suspects are either convicted or acquitted at trial based on the prosecution”s presentation of EVIDENCE which usually hinges on MOTIVE, OPPORTUNITY, and TIME-LINES combined with physical documents. To gather such hard evidence, detectives and/or federal agents often spend months following leads and interviewing witnesses. In the trial phase, re-creating the sequence of events is essential. I submit this paper will provide more than enough hard evidence to at least result in a series of criminal indictments of charges of MASS MURDER, and CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT WORLD GENOCIDE against Novartis Pharmaceutical principals and agents and others.

PRIMARY MOTIVE

The Primary Motive behind this alleged criminal activity is also the primary cause of most murders in the world today, and that motivation is simply: BIG MONEY!! Billions of Dollars of windfall profits from government contracts worldwide, as a matter of fact. I will provide evidence that will show that Novartis Pharmaceuticals of Basel, Switzerland has conspired with corrupt “scientists” at the U.S. Army Institute of Pathology Ft. Detrick Maryland, to create a “novel” strain of weaponized “influenza” virus by means of “reverse engineering” the deadly 1918 killer strain which strain was maliciously and surreptitiously released upon the world in March and April of 2009 for the primary purpose of creating a panic-stricken world-wide demand for Novartis vaccine material.

The evidence will also clearly show that the Novartis vaccine material is in reality designed to facilitate the further mutation of the pandemic into more lethal waves of increasingly virulent and deadly disease, rather than to curtail and limit the existing outbreak. The evidence will show that Novartis is willingly being used, (and extremely well-paid) to facilitate the edicts of the global elite’s Club of Rome; which edicts clearly call for a massive and sudden depopulation of certain segments of the earth’s human population.

PRIMARY EVIDENCE

To realize such windfall profits on an engineered, global flu pandemic, detailed covert planning must take place of course. Patents protecting the proprietary flu vaccine must be applied for and secured before the pandemic virus is released in order to minimize the competition and maximize the profit potentials. In a biological attack of this nature, timing is extremely critical. Indeed, the evidence is clear: Novartis applied for just such a patent on Nov. 4, 2005, and the U.S. Patent Office accepted this application and granted US 20090047353A1 for a “Split Influenza Vaccine with Adjuvants” on February 19, 2009. With this patent now secured, the conspirators were now free to create the demand for their “novel” split influenza vaccine by releasing a “novel” split-influenza (combining multiple viruses) pandemic virus from a weapons lab test-tube into unsuspecting human hosts.

The so-called “Swine Flu” grabbing headlines today is actually a recombinant, or “split-influenza” virus consisting of A-strain Bird-Flu (H5N1), Swine Flu (H1N1) and multiple strains of human flu (H3N2). Likewise, the 1918 Killer Flu that killed untold millions of people was a recombinant or “split-influenza” virus composed of Bird flu, Swine Flu, and multiple strains of human flu.

CRIMINAL TIMELINE

The criminal timeline begins in 1997, when Dr. Jeffrey Taubenberger assembled a team of geneticists and microbiologists to analyze the genome structure, and then to REPRODUCE (i.e. reverse engineer) what is arguably one of the most deadly viral structures the world has ever been cursed with “ the 1918 killer flu virus. According to numerous published stories and reports, Taubenberger and his team utilized super-computers to map the complex RNA and DNA structures of the killer virus, then utilized human plasmids to successfully re-create the 1918 killer. Taubenberger completed his work in early 2005, then immediately left the employ of the U.S. Army at Ft. Detrick to take a much more lucrative position with the National Institutes of Health. His new focus was to create a VACCINE against the very same 1918 killer flu that he and his team had, just months earlier, successfully “reverse engineered” and created.

This researcher is very confident that a focused criminal investigation would likely reveal prima facia evidence that Taubenberger was in reality working for Novartis while employed with the N.I.H. “ and was quite likely the primary author of Novartis’ Nov. 6, 2005 “provisional” patent application. On page 2, paragraph 32 of the patent publication we read, quote: “The influenza virus [that the “invention vaccine” is designed to protect against] may be a reassortant strain, and may have been obtained by reverse genetics techniques. Reverse genetics techniques allow influenza viruses with desired genome segments to be prepared in vitro using plasmids.” The remnant of the paragraph then goes into very specific detail as to the actual mechanics of how the pandemic virus was actually created by Taubenberger’s Ft. Detrick team. At the very least, the author of the patent application had to have studied Taubenberger’s various published reports on his work at Detrick, for the wording and science is virtually verbatim. Furthermore, this paragraph is even more damning by the words “may have been obtained”. Who “obtained” this virus and for what reason was it “obtained”. Keep in mind the CDC and HHS would have Americans believe that the pandemic viral outbreak is totally a “natural” occurrence “ if so then how could Novartis have such an incredible advance knowledge to the point of developing a vaccine with such absolutely PERFECT TIMING?????

WHO EXACTLY IS “NOVARTIS”???

(Novartis International AG) is simply the world’s largest, multi-national pharmaceutical company with over $53 Billion USD revenue generated in 2008. It’s headquarters is located in Basel, Switzerland, home of the vaunted “Swiss Guards” who provide all security measures for the Vatican and the Club of Rome. The company logo symbolizes the “eternal flame” of the Illuminati “enlightened ones”. Dig into Novartis International AG’s long history, and one finds that it began as a component of the infamous I.G. Farben combine, which in turn was primarily responsible for the rise of Adolph Hitler and the German/Austrian Third Reich. Dig a bit deeper and you find that Novartis also wholly owns a company called Sandoz - which was the inventor of LSD and other strong hallucinogenic “truth” drugs, and was the supplier of LSD to the CIA allowing them to scale new heights with their covert “MK ULTRA” mind control experiments. Documents released to U.S. Congressional investigators in 1977 show that Sandoz Labs had arranged for certain Nazi scientists to gain new identities in Allen Dulles” CIA at the conclusion of WWII. This was accomplished under a secret extraction program called “Operation Paper Clip”.

The address listed on the Novartis Patent applications is a P.O. Box in Emeryville, California. Up until the summer of 2005, this Emeryville California address belonged to Chiron Inc. - the world’s second-largest INFLUENZA VACCINE MANUFACTURER. Chiron was doing very well, with reported sales of $357 million in fiscal 2002. Chiron”s sales nearly doubled, peaking at a whopping $678 million in 2003 - and it was mostly due to the marketing and sale of FLU VACCINE CONTRACTS to the federal government. Novartis, which owned much of Chiron’s stock, was very pleased, until disaster struck in 2004 --- the entire year’s stock of flu vaccine was found to be contaminated and was condemned. Stock values plummeted on the news. With the stock at a historic low, Novartis quickly purchased the remainder of Chiron’s stock and began immediately to work on the massive “novel pandemic flu” vaccine that they somehow knew would soon have worldwide demand “ especially if they controlled the exclusive patent they could effectively “corner the pandemic flu vaccine market”!!

OTHER CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES

I would submit that killing tens of thousands of innocent humans via the systemic creation of a “pandemic” in order to make billions of dollars is vile enough, but there is also evidence that there is an even more heinous hidden agenda at work here, and it is spelled GENOCIDE.

It is no mystery that Adolph Hitler advocated the elevation of a Nordic “Master Race” that would rule the world in a “New Order of the Ages” called the “Third Reich”. Sadly, not all of the EUGENIC/GENOCIDAL National Socialists were executed at Nuremburg. In reality, the elite financiers that actually dictated the agenda to Hitler, merely went underground, willing to bide their time until their godless agenda to liquidate BILLIONS of people could be successfully implemented.

The evidence that the Novartis-controlled “Pandemic Vaccine” may well be a tool of mass genocide, is actually quite overwhelming. At this point, some readers may scoff and ask: “Why would any company want to kill off their customers”. The answer is that these “customers” control large blocks of assets and equity. As Kissinger’s “NSSM-200” report outlines, the “spoils” of genocide include controlling large tracts of land and mineral assets. This is secondary, of course, to their warped dream of creating a Utopian World Order with only 500 million “worthy” humans allowed to share in it.

WHAT”S THE EVIDENCE”

While George H.W. Bush was busy saving the world from the evil dictator Saddam Hussein in 1991, pursuant to his U.N. speech to create a “new world order” an agenda for an “Initiative for Eco-92 Earth Charter” elitist meeting happened to fall into honest, Christian hands. This agenda basically reiterated the genocide outlined in Henry Kissinger’s infamous NSSM-200 report of 1974, and called for “the immediate reduction of world population.” The entire report can be downloaded at:

My extensive research shows that by 1992, the massive death rate of AIDS had simply not materialized to the Elite’s satisfaction, and a more efficient mass killer had to be engineered in order to fulfill the edicts cut into the “Georgia Guidestones”.

Evidence shows that like the 2009 “Novel” Flu Virus the HIV virus was also engineered and manufactured in the labs of Ft. Detrick.

In 1969, during a House Appropriations Committee hearing, the Defense Department's Biological Warfare (BW) division at Ft. Detrick requested funds to develop, through complex gene-splicing (i.e. genetic engineering) a “novel” new disease that would both be resistant to, and break down a victim's immune system. The Congressional Record reads: "Within the next 5 to 10 years it would probably be possible to make a new infective micro-organism which could differ in certain important respects from any known disease-causing organisms. Most important of these is that it might be refractory to the immunological and therapeutic processes upon which we depend to maintain our relative freedom from infectious diseases." The funds for this “Dr. Strangelove” project were somehow approved. AIDS “magically” appeared within the requested time frame, and of course, just happens to exhibit the exact characteristics specified by the Ft. Detrick scientists.

Three years later, in 1972, the fledgling World Health Organization (WHO) published a very similar proposal to the one submitted to the U.S. House Appropriations Committee in 1969. The WHO proposed that: "An attempt should be made to ascertain whether viruses can in fact exert selective effects on immune function, e.g., by ...affecting T cell function as opposed to B cell function. The possibility should also be looked into that the immune response to the virus itself may be impaired if the infecting virus damages more or less selectively the immune cells responding to the viral antigens." (Bulletin of the W.H.O., vol. 47, p 257- 274.) This is a “textbook” clinical description of the function of the HIV/AIDS virus.

The W.H.O. shortly thereafter begins a massive “smallpox vaccination” program in Africa in 1975. Within two years, millions of smallpox vaccines are provided by Novartis et. al, under U.N.I.C.E.F. funding. A decade later, it is determined by independent journalists in the U.K. that the incidence of AIDS infections” MAPPED AND GRAPHED EPICENTERS in Africa coincided exactly with the locations of the W.H.O. smallpox vaccination program centers in the mid-1970's (Source, The London Times, May 11, 1987). Some 14,000 Haitians then on UN “humanitarian missions” to Central Africa were also vaccinated in this campaign, and soon contracted HIV. Personnel actually conducting the vaccinations of the Haitians maintain they had been completely unaware that the vaccine was anything other than a routine shot.

In 1987, Dr. Hilleman, head of all vaccine production of Merck Pharmaceuticals stunned the world with his public admissions that the mass vaccination campaigns of the 1950s and '60s likely caused thousands of cancer deaths each year. This was due to the presence of a cancer-causing virus that contaminated the first polio vaccine, according to Dr. Hilleman. Known as SV40, the virus originated from dead monkeys whose kidney cells were used to culture the first Salk vaccines. Doctors estimate that the virus was injected into tens of millions during the vaccination campaigns, including several million in Canada, before being detected and screened out in 1963. Those born between 1941 and 1961 are thought to be most at risk of having been infected with SV40, and are estimated to have a 300% greater chance of developing cancer. According to Hilleman MERCK KNEW THE VACCINES WERE INFECTED WITH SV40, but distributed them anyway.

Furthermore, research doctors in New Orleans reported in 1963 that a percentage of the Salk polio vaccines were found to have attenuated, (live) viruses, which actually CAUSED tens of thousands of polio cases during the 1950s.

On July 13, 2009, the W.H.O. sanctioned this lunacy by declaring: “In view of the anticipated limited vaccine availability at global level and the potential need to protect against "drifted" strains of virus, it is recommended that promoting production and use of vaccines such as those that are formulated with oil-in-water adjuvants and live attenuated influenza vaccines is important.”

In conclusion and summation, it should be evident that the “2009 Swine Flu” could just as easily be called the “Bird Flu” - because it is as much H5N1 (bird flu) as H1N1 (pig flu.) Novartis knew this in 2005 when it received hundreds of millions of dollars from Mike Leavitt”s HHS to develop and patent the “bird flu” vaccine. I publicly charge that Novartis had advance knowledge of this “combination” because they had been in consultation with Jeffrey Taubenberger for years.

It is further evident that Novartis’ patent provides for “influenza vaccine kits” to be provided to other pharmaceutical manufacturers as well. These “kits” are the basic raw ingredients needed for the other companies to build their own vaccines under their own label.

In 2005, this “jobbing” of separate ingredients by multiple companies would never have been allowed because of the legal liability issues involved. However, in 2009, all liabilities for death and disability from faulty or contaminated vaccines have been stripped away. Any wrongful death or disability lawsuits against Novartis or any other company will today be summarily dismissed. Novartis today has carte blanche blanket immunity for their actions “ and any large pharmaceutical company who so desires, can join them at the feeding troughs just by paying millions for their “kits”.

If this isn’t the pinnacle of criminality, then I don’t know what is.

Never been before, but I have a burning desire to attend this year. Dont have any friends heading there, so would have to go solo. How crazy would it be to rent a van, pack it up with some water and food, and head to the burn? Just wondering how many days I could go without a shower and not cause people to run the other way....

I understand that most people go with a group and have a camp of their own, but do a lot of people go solo?

I have heard of a man who arrived alone and naked and had a blast so perhaps I would be fine.

Three-stage vaccinations may create perfect cytokine storm

The vaccine is to be given by a series of three injections. Speaking on the Republic Broadcasting Network with Dr. Rebecca Carley as host on July 11th, meta-analyst and vaccine researcher Patrick Jordan reported belief that the first injection will be for the purpose of turning off the victim's immune system. The second injection will be for the purpose of loading people with deadly organisms. And the third injection will be to turn the immune system back on for the purpose of creating a cytokine storm that will deal a lethal blow to the body.

We have been conditioned to think of external microbes as our enemy during a time of influenza. But our own immune systems are potentially more lethal. When the body detects foreign microorganisms indicating an infection, it can respond by overprotecting the site of that infection. In its hurry to get antibodies to the infection site, the body may dispatch so many that the level of cytokines becomes highly elevated, creating a cytokine storm that can be fatal. Jordan continued by painting a picture outlined in the WHO Memorandum Number 1 with a study that found virus infections make antibody and antigen complexes. These complexes can clog blood vessels or implant tissue, making the body eventually attack itself. The main focus of this study was kidney disease. Animals with induced immune system deficiency were infected with lethal virus until every single cell in their bodies reflected the disease. But for a time these animals ran around like there was nothing wrong with them because their immune system was so depressed that it was making no effort to fight the disease, and there was no immune response. The WHO experimenters then took their lab animals and stimulated the cell-mediated immune response, and the animals died immediately from their bodies attacking themselves in the kind of cytokine storm associated with the 1918 Spanish flu.

Even if this described scenario does not develop, Jordan points out that the current "swine flu" vaccine is made with an adjuvant that may contain a material poison, salmonella, or typhoid fever toxin, along with squalene. Although not known with certainty, the second round of injections given to the soldiers in 1918 is believed to have contained typhus. Squalene produces auto-immunity and eventually death in everyone who takes it.

Squalene contributed to the cascade reactions known as Gulf War Syndrome that left GIs with arthritis, fibromyalgia, lymphadenopathy, photosensitive rashes, chronic fatigue, chronic headaches, ulcers, dizziness, weakness, memory loss, seizures, mood changes, neuro-psychiatric problems, multiple sclerosis, lupus, and other diseases.

Priceless BM ticket needed

It's been a tough year for many - for this burner, too. In short: lost job, lost home, and am barely getting by, so I haven't been able to afford a BM ticket. What I haven't lost is my burnin' spirit and the hope to still go to my soul-home in the desert! It is so soon now, and going to the playa is a much needed healing. Just can't imagine not sitting in the temple, not laughing with amazing people, seeing the sunrise after burn-night...
So I wonder...maybe the beautiful gifting spirit of BM is already out there? Is there anyone with a spare ticket you could afford to gift? Or trade for help with setting up camp? Or maybe pass it forward "playa-dirt-cheap"? If so, please let me know - any possibility you come up with is welcome!

-Plenty of camping space (we hope to build a hostel soon to accomodate backpackers)
-Housing for rent (although this is luxury, to generate income)
-WWOOF positions and work-exchange opportunities opening up in January (we will need a kitchen position, a maintenance and cleaning position, and a gardening position to start. We will also be constructing ecological houses for work-exchange people
-Opportunities to work for one year (including building a small habitation from local materials) in exchange for legal ownership of the habitation and a small plot of land for personal garden
-We are specifically looking for yoga instructors, massage therapists, landscape designers, green builders and permaculture-organic agriculture enthusiasts. We would like to beautify the space with flowers, murals, stained-glass designs. Let´s get creative! When we develop the center we will need a variety of mind-body healers.
-Future plans: 1-2 week workshops on organic farming, vegan cooking, sailing, etc. We plan on hosting conferences, parties, weddings, Vipassana meditation retreats, camping trips for disadvantaged children from Guatemala City to get in touch with nature and rediscover their roots. We are very open to ideas and want to experiment. Get it?

I am seeking donations of beads and old jewelry to disassemble and use at my DIY Burning Bling table this year. I am creating a spot for folks to come by and make their own Burning Man necklaces and bracelets to keep or give away.

Any help is deeply appreciated! I can come pick up in SF, Peninsula and the upper part of the South Bay (Sunnyvale and north). Will consider traveling farther for large amounts of beads. Beads should be medium to large size, as tiny beads are likely to get lost in the dust.

Apparently one of our friends has gone missing. Here is a note from Minx Larsen about what is going on with Elias:

... he went up to Northern California for a few meetings and has not returned to LA. He was last seen Monday evening 7/20/09 around 8 pm in Oakland.

A text was received to my dear friend Andrea (his good friend and business partner) on Monday night at 10 pm that he would be arriving back to LA around 4 am, Tuesday morning. He has not been heard of since.

We have now found out that someone has tried to cash a falsified check (he carries his check book on him at all times) and tried to use his credit cards.

My name is Soulfriend and I am calling together the healing domes for the Redlightning community in Black Rock CIty, Nevada. (www.redlightning.org)

The healing council has formed and our vision is materializing. This message is for you who are called to hold space with us. To be of service to the immediate community Redlightning, as well as to the community of BRC and beyond.

Are you interested in co-creating and activating a harmonic resonance for vitality, health, life and transformational work? Are you who we are dreaming in, to collectively hold down this space on the playa?

The intention is to offer a variety of healing modalities ie: DNA activations, oracles, light workers, massage, healing touch, yoga, sound healing… you name it, to those going through their processes within the vibrations of the divine feminine and sacred masculine, uniting at the vesica piscis.

We will be working out of two domes within the Redlightning. The first will be a facilitated healing space with tables for active process with a center altar for prayer and connecting to the vortex of the 7th dimension. The second dome will be a community wellness sanctuary for group work ie: breath work, sound healing, guided meditation, talks on blood mysteries... Between workshops, it will be a contemplative/retreat space for people to meditate or rest and receive the vibrations that we as a collective activate and hold throughout the week.

Ride wanted to burning man

I live in NJ and spin fire with the PEX crew in Philly. I met a few of the bay area spinners at Wildfire and absolutely loved them. Anyways, I have family in Alameda that I want to go see and would feel like such a jerk if I make way out there for burning man but not see them. So I am thinking I should fly out the San Francisco a week before burning man to see them and maybe be slave labor to any burners that need help getting things together and then ride out to BRC with some cool bay area burners. This is an invitation to join Sacred Spaces camp -- the builders and
keepers of the Evolutionary Temple at Burning Man 2009.

We define Sacred Space as: a protected intentional space designed for
communing with the Divine. Our temple is a sacred container for music,
kirtan, healing arts, workshops, ritual, meditation, reflection and
community.

In 2006, we created the Temple of All Gods & the Axial Temple. At
Burning Man in 2007 we created the Gaia Maitreya Goddess Temple and
the Temple of All Gods. In 2008, we created Pantheogenesis temple at

Need photographers and models for new project!

Hello! My name is Nathan and I am a Los Angeles and Arizona region burner. I'm up in the Bay area for the next month or so and I was hoping to get some help on a project I'm working on. I have recently met a great fashion artist in Santa Clara and I am taking it upon my self to get her work quite literally out of her basement. To do this the first thing I need is some quality photos of her clothing! Thus I am looking for talented photographers and models within our community to volunteer their time and talent to assist with this. The only pay I may be able to promise you (I still have to clear it with her but I think she'll go for it) is a piece or two of her work. I wanted to present this to the burner community before I go and put it on Craigslist because I know we as a people love supporting each others art and really appreciate crazy costuming! I'll put a link to some pictures of her stuff on my myspace below so you can see what she does and how badly we need help!

Basically, we're just getting together what people are going to be using the space, and whoever might be interested in using the space. If your any kind of burner/artiist/musician/performer etc, swing by around 7ish or so to chill out with some like minded peeps and let us know what you think, what you might want to do, see, etc. Concrete Jungle has an RV, a generator, a sewing machine, tools, 15 couches, and a 6500ft2 warehouse to get things started.. If you have some skills you want to show off, some records you want to play, beers to drink, drums to play, bring 'em.

Call for artists - Los Gatos

You might have noticed that there is already a lovely outdoor sculpture or two on the Lupin grounds, and a rotating exhibit of art and photographs in the restaurant. What you might not know is that Lori Kay, owner of Lupin, is a world-renowned sculpture artist who has had several major exhibitions in San Francisco, San Jose, and throughout the Bay Area. She's also been a long-time participant in the Hunters Point Shipyard and has numerous accolades for her large-scale sculptures placed in corporate, civic and gallery environments (see www.lorikay.com). Her creations are whimsical and structural, integrating elements of welding, recycled pieces, plasma cutting, and mixed media.

Now, Lupin has invited all of us to participate in the evolution of its new sculpture garden. Mardi Storm, whose fantastic piece "Hippocampus" has graced the main lobby at Burning Man Headquarters, will be installing "Twilight Anima Rising" at Lupin. This artwork first made an appearance at Burning Man 2005. Also, Bob "Wizzard" Marzewski, whose large-themed art is known to many South Bay Burners, will be installing "Intelligent Design" at Lupin, which he built for the Burning Man 2006 theme "Hope and Fear: The Future". Overall, there are 19 pieces currently slated for placement on the grounds, including a "sculpture walk" which is going to be a fundamental part of the new art & nature programming rolling out this year.

With Mardi and Wizzard seeding the new sculpture garden with some burner art, we wonder what else burners can grow there. The owners of Lupin are inviting all of us to install large-scale art (either an on-loan or permanent basis) to help enrich the flavor of Lupin. Do you have a favorite art project that came back from the playa a little dusty, and you can't figure out where to store it? Is it taking up too much of your backyard (which may be great for parties, but you *would* like to be able to sit out there, too, right?) Do you want to display it for the burner crew at Soulstance 2009, and let the rest of Lupin members and visitors enjoy it too? We have a great opportunity to contribute to the creation of a new art space right in our own back yard. (Lupin has over 110 acres to share with us!) If you'd like to list your art for sale, exposure to the Lupin community is a great way to gain an appreciative audience.

Soulstance is a 3-day, 2-night official Burning Man Regional Event, and this will be the third year in a row that we’ve celebrated a burning solstice at Lupin Lodge in Los Gatos. If you didn’t make it last year, ask around … it was spectacular (300+ attendees, music and workshops all day and night, art cars and costumes and camping, oh my!) This year, we’re hoping to make it bigger and better than ever, but it can’t happen without YOU!

Gear up for the playa, do some practice CAMPING (shake the dust out of your tent, test your air mattress, see how warm your playa coat really is!), PARTICIPATE in the creation of a playa-rific experience for everyone who attends. Burners and Mental Health

For those of you close to Caleb, aka, Shooter--and anyone else who is close to a Burner or Burners that struggle with issues of depression or other challenges of that nature--or for those who struggle with these issues themselves:

A good friend has started a Tribe called Radical Life Institute--as a place to discuss mental health and the Burner community. It looks like it could be a good place for open dialog on this issue. Having had a brother with schizophrenia, I am an advocate of mental health education. We have a wonderful, wacky, diverse community with our fellow Burners--and due to its very nature of attracting folks who often "live on the edge," it behooves all of us to understand how to help our friends in the community when these sort of issues arise in our friendships, or when we face them ourselves.

I encourage you to join--and contribute to an open dialog on this very vital subject.

I have a task to build an approx 12x10 wall (non load bearing) in a warehouse living space.

I don't want to do it by myself though I probably could, and I don't want it to take 20 hours, so I'm looking for a pro to work with me, and talk/lead me through it. Framing and putting up the drywall.

It might be a little tricky due to a little pipe or two....but shouldn't take too long since -you- know what you're doing.

Hi everyone,
Given the uncertain times, many people are re-evaluating their place of work (by choice and by force). One thing I've been curious about are companies that either shut down during burning man week because so many people leave, or encourage employees to go. It would be a nice thing to know in advance before making a job decision.

I'd be curious to know what companies encourage/embrace employees to go to Burning Man. Is it mainly Bay Area tech companies? or others? Do you know of any?

What I do know:
-Google doesn't shut-down but it is an unproductive week because many employees go, and a little burning man culture is part of their culture. over 500 people are on the internal burning man email list

-Pixar has had quite a few employees go who have built some cool projects in the past.

Do you all know about Piss Clear, the Burner magazine, that was around for 13 years? It’s been called “the Vice Magazine of the playa” – sharp and funny with an alternative view of Black Rock City. I found out that RE/Search Publications has published BURNING MAN LIVE, which has the best of all 13 years (1994-2007), including “Best of Black Rock City,” “Sex and Drugs,” “Playa Fashion Do’s and Don’ts,” “You Know You’re a Burner When…” “Borg Wars,” interviews with Larry Harvey (Burning Man cofounder) and Harley DuBois (Director of Community Services), and introductions by Brian Doherty, Adrian Roberts, and Malderor. This book is 320 pages, and HUGE (8.5 by 11 inches) of pure Burning Man history– highly recommended – with really great articles and photos.

my boyfriend has lymphoma which isn't easily treated with western medicine so we are looking to get him to a clinic in germany where they have the most up-to date alternative therapies. we need a low-cost or free community space preferably in the city to hold another fundraiser. we're looking to do wine, art, and music.

do any of you out there know of any spaces? $300 is our max.

Playa Fashion Show - MAY

I'm the head of a new theme camp for BM this year, and for a fundraiser we are planning on a fashion show, we need models and everything that comes with them, but specifically are interested in giving any designers some free publicity having their pieces in the show, which will be sometime in May in SF, details are vague at the moment... but if you would like to lend clothing, modeling, stylists, makeup artists, DJs etc, we are totally interested so please reply!! Sunrise was developed to inspire individuals to see things from different angles, through compound circles and the possibility of patterns in seemingly chaotic swirls of movement, to help people think outside day-to-day encounters with movement and perspective. A seemingly simple concept, the gyroscopic effect, is elaborated upon to show seven distinct angles of movement and perspective which allows a user, not only an observer, to see the innate shapes these rings create in motion. Users control the speed, direction, number, and visibility of these rings from a remote station through an electronic interface; it allows people to produce, and attempt to reproduce, visible patterns or geometric shapes in its illuminated points of axis.

Our first steps were taken in Sept. 2008, with its initial conception; shortly after designs and schematics were drafted. Building on the prototype began in late October ’08 at the Department of Spontaneous Combustion, the model stands at 10 feet with speed control, and light emitting diodes representing points of light and rotation on the full scale model. The first fundraiser for the project took place in December, making enough to cover the cost of the prototype.

Like the scale model, the full scale version has bearing points placed along the ratio of 5/3 – the golden ratio, or golden spiral(found everywhere in nature, but known mostly due to the mathematician Fibonacci, and the artist Leonardo da’Vinci), which allows the seven independent rings to traverse a spherical realm broken into multiple planes. The effect is 14 points of light moving along regular paths at irregular intervals, encapsulated in a shell of contrasting light; as the sculpture slows down or changes direction the axis lights take on a floating motion and seem to be suspended in a fluid body before being thrown back into motion by a controller. Electro-magnetic latches will be placed at bearing or counter-bearing points to engage specific rings from a control station, which will allow the sculpture to rotate as a single unit, or break apart into a number of various combinations of rings creating different shapes and motions. External forces will also play a role in the way patterns evolve by way of accumulated mass with connected rings and wind resistance, thus allowing the possibility of a kinetic sculpture that has either complete human control, or natural uncontrolled motion. Allowing the opportunity of infinite possibilities grants the sense of both control and chaos in the sculpture making interaction equally important to observation, though neither is independently complete. As people continue to interact with the piece they may find a particular sequence of controls will generate a sequence of events or patterns in what had previously seemed like a chain of random movements of light, these can be reproduced in the same conditions. The intensity of each light set can be controlled independently of other rings which allow particular shapes (i.e. stars, cubes etc) to become more noticeable in a pattern set. The number of variables at play makes the central point of rotation evasive and creates a body of light without attachment to position or restriction of movement.

MECHANICS
When outside lighting falls on project Sunrise the mechanical grace is noticed as the rings ranging from 1.5-13 feet in diameter glide past each other at 3 inches of spacing on every imaginable plane; a single point has up to 1.84467441x10^19 possible positions at any time. Load bearing is close to 1,000 lbs. And balance will be within 2lbs on axis which requires flange mounted bearings with hollow shanks for feeding electrical coupling from the base to the innermost ring. Standing at nearly 20 feet with the base, Sunrise will be visible from over 400ft. away but the movements will begin to make sense the closer an observer gets to it. A safety perimeter will be clearly marked at 25ft in all directions and made most noticeable by the control podium, which will stand four feet tall and house the motor control, the electro-magnetic releases, the light intensity controllers and the blast control. The safety perimeter will also include three additional illuminated pedestals connected by illuminated cable, to deter people from getting dangerously close to the sculpture. Sunrise will be driven by a 240vac, 7.5 hp, single phase electric motor geared down via chain drive and housed in an acrylic casing in the base. A motor control (PC1-75; digital, 1-3phase, 240vac with .1 ~ 6000 sec. response) will run from the control panel, to the motor, allowing safe and accurate control from a remote station. The control center will transmit a radio control signal to RF receivers in the rings for light actuations via Audrino analog/digital transponders (four channel controllers which break into two gateways- primary lights and secondary lights on each bearing point, then dimmer controls – two per gateway). Current for the electro-magnetic latches must be 110v, consequently we will be routing through the center of the bearings with 18pt slip rings which will allow for independent control of each latch. Our user interface itself will be made from a stripped mixing console coupled with photo sensors and variable speed levers cased in a brushed steel “podium”.

OPERATIONS
During the week Sunrise will be attended by a crew of 4 who will facilitate smooth and safe operation, for the first four days, however, the user control will be in a limited operation mode so that it may be run without crew presence. The reason being that we would like to allow people to encounter the piece earlier in the week on a more individual level- without crew or crowds, no instructions, just an open control panel. During the latter half of the week we anticipate more people and the need to facilitate interaction, but with crew assistance users will be able to control more parameters and create more intricate images.
